Introducing BODY CON
In the wake of her mother’s death, Allie turns to the promises of wellness culture, convinced that if she can just follow the right diet, adopt the right habits, and achieve the right body, she’ll be OK. But the harder she pushes, the more her body pushes back. Heeding diet culture's directives begins to backfire, and attempts at professional help are dismissed, ignored, or misunderstood. Her pursuit of health begins to turn on itself.
BODY CON is an intimate memoir of grief, eating disorder recovery, and the cultural forces that teach us to mistrust our bodies. It explores what happens when the pursuit of health becomes harmful, and how to unlearn everything we’ve been taught about self-worth.
