About Allie Moore
Hi, I’m Allie!
I’m a writer, editor, and the author of BODY CON: A Memoir of Losing, Gaining, and Escaping Diet Culture (out February 18, 2027!).
For more than a decade, I’ve written and edited across disciplines and for varied audiences. But what I love most are personal narratives—getting to the heart of human behavior, especially when it pertains to our minds and bodies.
I graduated from East Carolina University with a BA in Journalism and a minor in French. Since then, I’ve lived in Washington, D.C.; Phnom Penh, Cambodia; Barcelona, Spain; and Atlanta, GA. Now, In 2023, I moved back to D.C. and call the nation’s capital my home (for now!).

Between the Lines
My passion projects live at the intersection of personal and cultural, from commentary on the constantly evolving world of wellness, to honest accounts from my life in eating disorder recovery. I strive to be vulnerable with my words in hopes that revealing the less-photo-worthy moments of life will connect and resonate with readers.

Rally to pass the Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA)
I’ve spent more than a decade writing and editing for media organizations, technology companies, and small businesses, including travel features, thought leadership, case studies, and long-form content. My work has allowed me to satisfy my curiosity for different cultural perspectives, interpersonal exploration, and the ability to adapt to changing environments. From these experiences, I’ve learned how to bring a unique lens to a central human story.
I founded Recovery Writes in November 2020, with the goal of creating a safe, supportive community for those who find themselves embroiled in negative thoughts about their bodies. Through blog posts and weekly writing prompts, I encourage readers to explore their relationships with food and their bodies on the page.
In 2025, I was awarded the Eating Disorders Coalition’s inaugural Voices of Advocacy Award for an essay examining social media’s effects on eating disorders and body image.
It’s a pleasure and a privilege to bring my lived experience to the page and write about difficult topics in hopes of helping readers feel less alone, raise awareness, and reduce stigma.
Beyond the Page
When I’m not writing, I’m going for long walks with the pups I’m dogsitting, planning my annual return trip to Barcelona, or firing up the Nespresso machine and diving into a page-turner. I’m genre-agnostic, equally keen to dive into a poetic memoir, a suspenseful thriller, or a cozy mystery.
